2022 Undergraduate Research Mentor Award Winners Announced

LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 8, 2022) — Four University of Kentucky faculty members received the 2022 Excellent Undergraduate Research Mentor Award for their exceptional leadership and support of student researchers.

Q. What does this award mean to you? A. "Research has given me a lot and it feels good to be recognized for my work to give back to it." Q. How has your experience as a Research Ambassador impacted you? A. "Being an ambassador pushed me out of my in a positive way. I was able to grow as an individual and was able to help others find a way to grow through research as well." Q. What was the most significant or memorable moment you experienced as a Research Ambassador?

UK’s Kotomi Yokokura Recognized as 2022-23 Newman Civic Fellow

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 27, 2022)  Kotomi Yokokura, a student in the College of Social Work at the University of Kentucky, has been recognized as the 2022-23 Newman Civic Fellow. Sponsored by Campus Compact, the fellowship recognizes students who engage in collaborative campus and community action to create social change, as well as address inequality and political polarization through civic engagement.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 4, 2022)  In February 2018, Angela Sanchez took her eldest son, Cyrus, on a tour of the University of Kentucky. “They give the best tours,” she says with a big knowing smile. That tour sparked curiosity and self-reflection, prompting Sanchez to think about herself for the first time in a long time. Being recently divorced, Sanchez needed to re-enter the workforce after more than 15 years but was apprehensive about explaining the gaps in her resume.
