Call for Vendors: Research Expo - Jan. 27, 2025

The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) is pleased to announce the Research Expo will be held on Monday, Jan. 27, 2025, from 11 am – 1 pm in the Gatton Student Center Social Staircase.  This is a great opportunity to promote summer research programs, spring research opportunities, and upcoming projects.  

After UK, chemistry doctoral graduate pursues nanoparticle research at West Point

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Rosemary Calabro found her love of research as an undergrad examining nanoparticles in materials chemistry. After graduating with her bachelor’s degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, she applied to many graduate schools searching for the perfect fit. That’s when she found professors Doo Young Kim and Dong-Sheng Yang at the University of Kentucky.  

2024 Oswald Research and Creativity Competition winners announced

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 22, 2024) — The University of Kentucky Office of Undergraduate Research recently announced the 22 undergraduate winners of the 60th annual Oswald Research and Creativity Awards. Chad Risko, faculty director of the Office of Undergraduate Research, and research ambassadors celebrated the winners and presented the awards.

Before Hena Kachroo had even enrolled at the University of Kentucky and discovered its welcoming and warm research environment, she had a model for what it meant to feel valued in a community. Growing up, she'd attended cultural events among the Indian community in Lexington where her family's culture, traditions, and classical dance had collectively made a meaningful impression and created an important sense of belonging and network of support.

University of Kentucky Undergrad Acquires Advanced Skills, Improved Confidence in the Lab

Growing up in Lexington, Kentucky, Kaitlyn Brock attended Frederick Douglass High School. Research opportunities were limited, as the school opened in 2017. Instead, Brock's earliest exposure to research came from her stepmom, who was a student at the University of Kentucky participating in biology research at the time. Now Brock, and one of her four younger siblings, both attend the University of Kentucky. In 2022, the University of Kentucky was named a Beckman Scholars Program Awardee.

10 students selected as 5-Minute Fast Track Research Competition finalists

LEXINGTON Ky. (Oct. 21, 2024) —The University of Kentucky Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) announces the sixth annual 5-Minute Fast Track Research Competition finalists. These undergraduates competed in the competition’s preliminary round and were selected as Top 10 finalists to present their research during the final round, 5-7:30 p.m. Oct. 21 in the Healthy Kentucky Research Building’s Seminar Room 150.

UK announces inaugural class of James B. Beam Scholars

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 24, 2024) — As part of Suntory Global Spirits’ ongoing support of the University of Kentucky James B. Beam Institute for Kentucky Spirits (JBBI), the first class of James B. Beam Scholars has been announced.

Sustainability Showcase Awards

The annual Sustainability Showcase was presented by the Office of Sustainability, The President’s Sustainability Advisory Committee, the Tracy Farmer Institute for Sustainability and the Environment, and the Office of Undergraduate Research. The initiatives featured at the Showcase fall into four general categories:
