Summer Research Lunch & Learn Series The Abstract Writing Workshop is designed to help students of all levels and disciplines prepare professional, succinct, and convincing abstracts.  The abstract writing workshop includes information on: What exactly is an abstract? How do I write one? What information do I include? What information do I exclude?  Join us for a fun and engaging Abstract Writing Workshop.   

5 students selected as Sustainability Summer Research Fellows

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 25, 2023) — Five University of Kentucky students have been selected for the Sustainability Summer Research Fellowship program, a high-impact learning experience that contributes to the students’ academic growth as well as sustainability-focused research initiatives at UK and in the community.

Call for Posters: Sustainability Research Poster Competition

Sustainability Research Poster Competition Graduate and undergraduate students are invited to submit an abstract and poster in a new sustainability research poster competition held in conjunction with the annual UK Sustainability Showcase on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 from 5:00  - 7:00 PM.

"I'm grateful to be awarded this summer fellowship as it will significantly alleviate the concern of material costs for my research. Excited to begin diving into my focus area alongside my faculty mentor as we seek to make reusing material more convenient within the College of Design!" Q. Why is sustainability research important?

Q. How will this summer research fellowship support your research efforts and future goals? A. "This fellowship will help to understand the importance of knowing where your food comes from and will support a local nursery with new meal planning and nutritional learning exercises." Q. Why is sustainability research important? A. "In my opinion we only have one earth and this research is important not only for our health, but the health of our planet as a whole."

Q. How will this summer research fellowship support your research efforts and future goals? A. "The fellowship will expense me the opportunity costs of other activities besides taking part in research this summer. It will also give me a network of support and other avenues of connection to support this project and help teach people about food waste in Lexington." Q. Why is sustainability research important?

Anna Ackerman

Q. How will this summer research fellowship support your research efforts and future goals? A. "The fellowship will support my efforts by allowing for an easier commute to Robinson Forest and promoting the beginning of a four-year research initiative in our local Kentucky environment. Tree productivity has not yet been explored in Kentucky, and the fellowship will help determine how forest microclimates impact watershed and ecosystem health. The fellowship will spread awareness and access to this research."

Summer Undergraduate Research + Creative Symposium

Please join the UK Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) on Monday, August 28 as we highlight summer research and creative work at the 5th annual Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium. The Symposium will be held in the Gatton Student Center Ballrooms B & C from 4:30 - 6:00 pm.  

Midsummer Research Social

The Office of Undergraduate Research is hosting a Midsummer Research Social for all summer research fellows and mentors on Wednesday, July 12 from 11:30 am – 1 pm at the WT Young Library Loop! We will be serving up free Taylor Belle's Ice Cream treats and good times for a fun summer social opportunity!

REGISTER: Showcase of Undergraduate Scholars

This year’s 17th annual Showcase of Undergraduate Scholars is on Wednesday, April 26, from 1 to 5:30 p.m. in the Gatton Student Center Grand Ballroom. The Showcase is an opportunity for undergraduates to present their work through oral sessions, posters, artistic exhibits or performances. The event gives students from all disciplines a chance to engage in public outreach and polish their presentation skills. Peers, faculty and the local community are invited to come learn about the wide range of undergraduate research conducted at UK.
