Western Kentucky tornadoes spur engineering undergrad research

Rivalry Aside, UK and UT Undergrads Study Hydroponic Lettuce

LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 12, 2022) —The relationship between the University of Kentucky and the University of Tennessee is commonly seen as a sports rivalry, but not for some undergraduate agriculture students who put the competition aside this summer to jointly study how light affects hydroponic lettuce.

Two CPH students selected for the African American Research Training Scholars program

UK College of Public Health (CPH) students Christopher Otieno and Ashley Wright have been accepted to the Spinal Cord and Brain Injury Research Center (SCoBIRC) African American Research Training Scholars (AARTS) program, an opportunity to receive up to 12 months of funded research training in neurotrauma at the University of Kentucky’s College of Medicine.

Research Project Title: "Enhanced Anticancer Activity of Artesunate When Combined with Navitoclax in Ovarian Cancer" Brief Project Description: "This project aims to observe a potential ovarian cancer treatment method using an anti-malarial drug, artesunate, in combination with another anti-cancer drug called navitoclax. Artesunate possesses anti-cancer properties and is synergistic with navitoclax. Further investigation of this combination including the mechanism of action and effects on 3D reflective models of ovarian tumors are the primary focuses of the project."

16 Students Selected for Inaugural CURE Fellowship Program

LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 23, 2022) — The Office of Undergraduate Research is honored to announce that 16 undergraduates have been selected for the 2022 Commonwealth Undergraduate Research Experience (CURE) Fellowship program.

UK Junior to Participate in Research Internship Program in Germany

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 29, 2022) — University of Kentucky junior Gretchen Ruschman has been selected to participate in the Research Internships in Science and Engineering (RISE) program through the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst – DAAD). Ruschman is an agricultural and medical biotechnology major in the UK College of Agriculture, Food and Environment and a student in the UK Lewis Honors College.
