Research Project Title: "Enhanced Anticancer Activity of Artesunate When Combined with Navitoclax in Ovarian Cancer" Brief Project Description: "This project aims to observe a potential ovarian cancer treatment method using an anti-malarial drug, artesunate, in combination with another anti-cancer drug called navitoclax. Artesunate possesses anti-cancer properties and is synergistic with navitoclax. Further investigation of this combination including the mechanism of action and effects on 3D reflective models of ovarian tumors are the primary focuses of the project."

16 Students Selected for Inaugural CURE Fellowship Program

UK Junior to Participate in Research Internship Program in Germany

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 29, 2022) — University of Kentucky junior Gretchen Ruschman has been selected to participate in the Research Internships in Science and Engineering (RISE) program through the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst – DAAD). Ruschman is an agricultural and medical biotechnology major in the UK College of Agriculture, Food and Environment and a student in the UK Lewis Honors College.

The Office of Undergraduate Research is hosting a Midsummer Research Social for all summer research fellows and mentors on Wednesday, July 13 from 11am – 1pm. We will be serving up free Kona Ice and good times for a fun summer social opportunity! All UK students and those visiting from other schools engaged in undergraduate research activities and creative works are eligible to attend the event, including mentors (PIs, graduate students, and postdocs) — regardless of funding source or formal program affiliation.

Angela Sanchez Plants New Roots for Family with UK Degree

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 4, 2022)  In February 2018, Angela Sanchez took her eldest son, Cyrus, on a tour of the University of Kentucky. “They give the best tours,” she says with a big knowing smile. That tour sparked curiosity and self-reflection, prompting Sanchez to think about herself for the first time in a long time. Being recently divorced, Sanchez needed to re-enter the workforce after more than 15 years but was apprehensive about explaining the gaps in her resume.
