I enjoy research because.... "it fosters creativity, allows me to develop my critical thinking skills, and has given me an opportunity to work in an academic team setting and learn from very knowledgeable mentors."

How did you first get interested in undergraduate research at UK?

"As part of my biology degree, I took a seminar class on Alzheimer's Disease. The research articles and discussions that we had sparked my natural curiosity and made me realize that I wanted to have a hand in pushing the boundaries of science."

How long have you been engaged in undergraduate research?

"10 months"

What has been the most exciting aspect of your research so far?

"I would say the most exciting aspect of my research so far is doing the exploratory analysis on the data set that led to the opportunity to speak at NCUR 2021. These results have also led to my long-term project in the Sun lab and I am very excited to continue my research on a very novel topic."

What advice would you give to other UK students thinking about doing research?

"You should absolutely do it! I was worried that my lack of research experience would prevent me from joining a lab, but that wasn't the case at all. I would highly recommend researching individual labs to find a topic that you are genuinely interested in and then reaching out to the PI with an introductory email."
