LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 3, 2021) — Registration is now open for the 15th annual Showcase of Undergraduate Scholars, which will be held virtually April 27-29, 2021. Since 2006, the Showcase of Undergraduate Scholars has been hosted by the UK Office of Undergraduate Research.

This year’s theme is “Celebrating Big Dreamers and Strategic Thinkers” and will offer both synchronous and asynchronous virtual presentations over the course of three days. The showcase celebrates the accomplishments of UK students and encourages them along the path of intellectual achievement. It also celebrates the inspiration and creativity of UK's student scholars and the dedication of their mentors.

Showcase is also an opportunity to recognize and honor the dedication of hundreds of faculty research mentors who devote their time and energy to students in the labs and other creative endeavors. Each year, students nominate their faculty for the honor of receiving the UK Excellent Undergraduate Research Mentor of the Year award. Students can submit their mentor’s nomination here.

Registration is open to every UK undergraduate student engaged in faculty-mentored research, scholarly or creative inquiry. Everyone who successfully registers by the April 1, 2021 deadline will be eligible to present. Student presentations will be presented live via Zoom with audience Q&A session after each. Click here for student registration for the Showcase of Undergraduate Scholars.

The University of Kentucky is increasingly the first choice for students, faculty and staff to pursue their passions and their professional goals. In the last two years, Forbes has named UK among the best employers for diversity, and INSIGHT into Diversity recognized us as a Diversity Champion four years running. UK is ranked among the top 30 campuses in the nation for LGBTQ* inclusion and safety. UK has been judged a “Great College to Work for" three years in a row, and UK is among only 22 universities in the country on Forbes' list of "America's Best Employers."  We are ranked among the top 10 percent of public institutions for research expenditures — a tangible symbol of our breadth and depth as a university focused on discovery that changes lives and communities. And our patients know and appreciate the fact that UK HealthCare has been named the state’s top hospital for five straight years. Accolades and honors are great. But they are more important for what they represent: the idea that creating a community of belonging and commitment to excellence is how we honor our mission to be not simply the University of Kentucky, but the University for Kentucky.
