Research Mentor: Dr. Olga Tsyusko

I enjoy research because.... "It allows me to utilize what I'm learning in my classes."

How did you first get interested in undergraduate research at UK?

"I first got interested in undergraduate research beginning of my sophomore year. I always knew I wanted to do research and I got lucky that Dr. Olga Tsyusko allowed me to work in her lab."

How long have you been engaged in undergraduate research?

"Since fall semester of my sophomore year."

What has been the most exciting aspect of your research so far?

"The most exciting aspect of my research is to seeing the progress. In the beginning of working in the lab I felt like I knew nothing and didn't truly understand the importance of my research. Over time I began collecting data and now I am at a point where I feel accomplished and proud of my research."

What advice would you give to other UK students thinking about doing research?

"If you want to try research just do it. There is not punishment for trying, and you might find yourself outside your comfort zone doing something you enjoy."
