Paul Schlowak

Senior, Economics major

Research Mentor: Dr. Benjamin Rosa

I enjoy research because.... "...it satifies human's natural craving for truth. By doing research, I can contribute a small part to understanding important socio-economic issues like inequality."

How did you first get interested in undergraduate research at UK?

"I was always interested in doing research, so I immediately embraced the opportunity to pursue my own research project."

How long have you been engaged in undergraduate research?

"I'm an exchange student, so I started my research project in fall."

What has been the most exciting aspect of your research so far?

"It was fascinating when I wrote my code for my research and finally got my results. I had numbers that indicated the effects of socio-economic factors on life expectancy. Being able to have concrete numbers for complex phenomena, it’s fascinating!"

What advice would you give to other UK students thinking about doing research?

"It doesn't really matter where you want to work. Thinking scientifically is a skill that will help you in your workspace as well as in everyday life."
