Research Mentor: Drs. Natalie Pope, Andrew Sullivan, and Kendra Oonorasak

I enjoy research because.... "I am able to gain a deeper understanding of the world and add to the current knowledge base."

How did you first get interested in undergraduate research at UK?

"I first got interested in research after realizing my work could make an impact on the macro level. I reached out to various faculty members and was very lucky to get connected to my first research mentor, who was a PhD student in the Martin School of Public Policy."

How long have you been engaged in undergraduate research?

"I've been engaged in undergraduate research for a year."

What has been the most exciting aspect of your research so far?

"I've been most excited about being able to work with faculty who support my exploration into topics and questions that I propose. I love being able to gain a deeper understanding of others' experiences through my research."

What advice would you give to other UK students thinking about doing research?

"I would encourage students to not be afraid to email professors, even if you have never met them. If they aren't able to work with you, they can get you connected with other resources."
