How will this summer research fellowship support your research efforts?

“I plan to use this summer research fellowship to further my research project that I have been working on over the course of my degree. The summer research fellowship will allow me to dedicate significantly more time to the project and advance progress towards presentations and publication”

Why is research important?

“Research is necessary to progress human knowledge. For undergraduates, the benefits are twofold: Allowing these students to work in laboratories will provide them valuable experience that makes them far better candidates for graduate research programs and necessary experience working independently; And undergraduate projects typically focus on smaller or more specific hypotheses that provide important information for planning larger scale projects”

What advice would you give to other UK students thinking about doing research?

“Start early and find something you will be interested in. The longer you are able to work in a lab at UK, the more experience you will get and the more complex the projects you can take on. Both of these are extremely valuable for students intending to go to graduate schools.”
