Isha Chauhan

Honors Sophomore, Biology major and Creative Writing minor

Research Mentor: Dr. Gregory Graf

I enjoy research because.... "of the opportunities it provides me. I have been able to have so many unique experiences because of how versatile research is!"

How did you first get interested in undergraduate research at UK?

"I first got interested in undergraduate research because I wanted to explore my career options. As a biology major, I did not understand how many avenues of science there were to discover. Research gave me insight into the work of professors, research mentors, doctors, lab technicians, and so much more."

How long have you been engaged in undergraduate research?

"I have been engaged in undergraduate research since the second semester of my freshman year!"

What has been the most exciting aspect of your research so far?

"Being able to meet so many inspiring, brilliant, and wonderful people have made my research experiences really exciting. I have met project supervisors from across the country and interact with professors with incredible projects just like mine. From my research mentor to the graduate students, I have been blessed with a community that encourages and supports me to reach my goals! "

What advice would you give to other UK students thinking about doing research?

"Doing research is an accurate representation of a graduate education and can feel tough and demanding sometimes. But don't be discouraged when things go wrong. The process is incredibly rewarding and even the smallest wins will make you a better student and scientist."
