How will this summer research fellowship support your research efforts?
“I am thrilled to have been awarded this incredible fellowship! With this amazing opportunity, I'll have access to valuable resources, dedicated mentorship, and get to present my research to a wider audience. Not only that, but this fellowship will also give me the chance to hone my research and writing skills, and further support my academic pursuits. I can't wait to see where this journey takes me!”
Why is research important?
“Sustainability research plays a vital role in addressing multifaceted challenges, including the neuro-immune impacts on health. By examining the intersection of substance use, environmental toxins, and gender-specific health effects, this research contributes to supporting several global sustainable development goals. Specifically, understanding the neuro-immune consequences of environmental vape combustion with oral contraceptives in female rats enhances our knowledge of the effects of substance use. Furthermore, this research sheds light on potential sex-specific impacts of substance use, thereby promoting gender equity in research. Ultimately, sustainability research in this area is imperative for promoting the health and well-being of individuals and communities while advancing global efforts towards achieving sustainable development.”
What advice would you give to other UK students thinking about doing research?
“If you are considering research, I advise looking for a topic that truly piques your curiosity. Explore opportunities to volunteer with different labs and try out various research areas to discover what truly interests you!”
