Cooper Samuelson 2024 Sustainability Fellow
Cooper Samuelson
Senior, Agricultural and Medical Biotechnology major and a 2024 Sustainability Fellow
Research Mentor: Kenton Sena
Supported by UK Student Sustainability Council
How will this summer research fellowship support your research efforts?
“The fellowship will help to support travel costs, personal financial needs, and any tools or last-minute purchases needed for the project. All of these will allow me to focus solely on the research and make sure that I have the time to get the work done.”
Why is research important?
“Sustainability research is important because the environment is continually and constantly impacted by anthropogenic activities. We need to know how we are affecting the environment and what steps can be taken to alleviate our impact. Once we figure out what we can do to alleviate our impact, we then have to make sure the solution is maintainable and practical.”
What advice would you give to other UK students thinking about doing research?
“Make sure to take any opportunity you are interested in. You have no idea what other doors will open for you or where you will end up unless you take that first step.”
