Anna Ackerman Sustainability Summer Research Fellow Spotlight

Q. How will this summer research fellowship support your research efforts and future goals? A. "The fellowship will support my efforts by allowing for an easier commute to Robinson Forest and promoting the beginning of a four-year research initiative in our local Kentucky environment. Tree productivity has not yet been explored in Kentucky, and the fellowship will help determine how forest microclimates impact watershed and ecosystem health. The fellowship will spread awareness and access to this research."

Appalachian Center honors 11 students with research awards

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 12, 2023) — The University of Kentucky Appalachian Center is honoring 11 students with its annual research awards. Eight graduate students received the James S. Brown Graduate Student Award for Research on Appalachia, and one graduate student and two undergraduate students received the center's Eller and Billings Student Research Award.

Showcase to spotlight 500 students’ research

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 24, 2022) — This week more than 500 University of Kentucky undergraduates will converge for the 17th annual Showcase of Undergraduate Scholars. The showcase empowers undergraduates to share their research discoveries, ideas and creative works with the campus community and the public. This year’s Showcase of Undergraduate Scholars from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, in the Gatton Student Center Grand Ballroom, features 500 students and 330 presentations representing 66 disciplines and 18 colleges.

‘Your voice matters.’ UK junior creating change through education, advocacy

Kotomi Yokokura has been asking herself that very question for as long as she can remember. “Understanding the pain of those whose voices are overlooked ignited my need to advocate,” she said. “I knew I needed to utilize my voice to amplify their stories and create change.”

UK senior named prestigious Gates Cambridge Scholar

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 6, 2023)  Two University of Kentucky seniors — Kayli Bolton and Kayla Horne — interviewed this year for the Gates Cambridge Scholarship, and Bolton was awarded one of only 23 Gates Cambridge Scholarships presented nationally to students hoping to pursue postgraduate study at the University of Cambridge in England.
