UK Undergraduates Present Posters at the Capitol
Correction: It was previously announced that 25 students would be presenting at Posters at the Capitol, but there are actually 12 presenting in Frankfort Feb. 10.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 9, 2011) - Twelve undergraduate researchers from the University of Kentucky have been chosen to present at the 2011 Posters-at-the-Capitol event tomorrow at the state capitol in Frankfort, Ky. Now in its 10th year, this event will have more than 200 student representatives from across the state displaying the results of their research and scholarly or creative work.
Posters-at-the-Capitol is a collaborative program where students from each of the Kentucky's eight public universities and the Kentucky Community and Technical College System present the results of research they have conducted as part of their college experience before the state legislature.
"Giving students the opportunity to present their research to state representatives at the Capitol demonstrates the value undergraduate research and scholarly inquiry have toward achieving competitive education, and the value to the state of supporting research at this level," said Diane Snow, director of the UK Undergraduate Research Office. "These students are the future of Kentucky, and we want them to be capable, prepared, and confident - all traits gained and enhanced through participating in undergraduate research!"
Their work represents thousands of hours of faculty-mentored student scholarship. While this is a great presentation opportunity for the students, it is also an opportunity for those who fund higher education in the Commonwealth to learn how important undergraduate research is to the education of Kentucky students.
