I enjoy research because.... "it allows me to gain a deeper understanding of complex topics, such as Alzheimer's disease, and use what I've learned in a hands-on way to hopefully impact people's lives in the future."

How did you first get interested in undergraduate research at UK?

"I attended the Undergraduate Research Showcase my freshman year of college and saw all of the very interesting projects that students were working on. It made me want to also be a part of this groundbreaking research happening right here on campus!"

How long have you been engaged in undergraduate research?

"2.5 years"

What has been the most exciting aspect of your research so far?

"The most exciting aspect of my research is discovering that after all of our experiments and data analysis, sleep fragmentated mice possessed higher levels of amyloid beta, showing a connection between poor sleep and Alzheimer's Disease. This discovery after all of our hard work was amazing!"

What advice would you give to other UK students thinking about doing research?

"I would encourage students to get involved with research! My research has taught me so much that I wouldn't have learned otherwise through traditional classes. Find an area/subject you are passionate about and go for it!"
