KAYLI BOLTON

Junior, Biology major

Research Mentor: Dr. Matthew Gentry

I enjoy research because.... "I enjoy research because it pushes me to think critically, has introduced me to amazing people, and allows me to contribute to science and medicine in a meaningful way."

How did you first get interested in undergraduate research at UK?

"I knew I wanted to try biomedical research after seeing the impacts of cancer personally and how physicians and scientists could make positive impacts on every aspect of patients' health. I applied to the first research opportunity I saw when it was shared to biology majors."

How long have you been engaged in undergraduate research?

"I have been engaged in research since August of 2019."

What has been the most exciting aspect of your research so far?

"It is very exciting when my mentor and I are discussing the next steps in a project. It is a great feeling to make progress towards answering a question."

What advice would you give to other UK students thinking about doing research?

"I think that any student thinking about doing research should start exploring subjects that interest them and reach out to the Office of Undergraduate Research because they have amazing resources to share that make the process much easier."
