KATHERINE CHILDERS NCUR 2022 Spotlight
Katherine Childers
Junior, Social Work major
Research Mentor: Dr. Julie Cerel
I enjoy research because.... "it has allowed me to be a part of something bigger than myself. Mental health in the military is something I am passionate about and this opportunity has allowed me to look at this issue on a macro practice level."
How did you first get interested in undergraduate research at UK?
"As a social work major, I have always been passionate about aiding in change greater than myself. Getting involved in research was the perfect opportunity to further explore my interests and it was an insightful experience to grow as a student."
How long have you been engaged in undergraduate research?
"I have been engaged in undergraduate research for 1 year"
What has been the most exciting aspect of your research so far?
"The most exciting aspect of research has been the numerous opportunities I have been given since joining Dr. Cerel's team such as, gaining a summer fellowship to study my research further and being selected to present my research at the NCUR."
What advice would you give to other UK students thinking about doing research?
"I would highly recommend any UK student to engage in research. It is a great way to get involved in your department and to learn more about whatever interests you!"
