Undergraduate Research Celebrated at UK CURATE Event
“Proscenium,” a research project by Danica Hak, an undergraduate in the School of Interiors at the College of Design and the Department of Theatre and Undergraduate Research Fellow, was recognized on January 19 at the CURATE Research Advisory Group (RAG) program sponsored by UK’s Office of the Vice President for Research.
“This program focused on celebrating university research across the enterprise (CURATE) in the colleges of Agriculture, Food and Environment, Arts and Sciences, Fine Arts, Design, Communication and Information, Education, Law, and The Graduate School,” said Director of Research Communications Alicia Gregory.
Hak worked on the project under the mentorship of Ingrid Schmidt, Assistant Professor in the School of Interiors. Said Hak, “This work explores the relationship between material, thickness, atmosphere, depth, perception, body, and light while answering the research question: ‘How can interiors surpass the surface level feeling of “pretty” and reach a more complex realm of emotion?’”
The event opened with remarks from Vice President for Research Lisa Cassis, followed by an introduction by Lindsey Fay, Committee Chair and Associate Dean for Research for the College of Design. Attendees then heard a sampling of CURATE-sponsored research, including an excerpt from “Proscenium.”
“I would love to thank the College of Design for allowing me the opportunity to design and create something refreshing,” said Hak. “I am excited to continue to explore the possibilities for this project.”
