Khamil Allen Thomas 2023 CURE Fellow
Khamil Allen Thomas
Sophomore, Computer Engineering major and a 2023 Energy RPA CURE Fellow
Research Mentor: Dr. Chad Risko
Supported by the Energy Research Priority Area
How will this summer research fellowship support your research efforts?
“It will help to forward the efforts in D3tails for the Risko Lab. Doing more testing on renewable energy materials will be good for the team.”
Why is research important?
“Through the university's resources, finding data to see if a theory is correct on any subject is important, and it even may discredit claims. It also helps to gain experience on any field of your interest, you do not necessarily need to be an expert on it.”
What advice would you give to other UK students thinking about doing research?
“I believe looking for the subject that just catches your attention is the most important. It does not have to be something strictly related to your major, just something that you are at least somewhat knowledgeable on and have interested on learning more on the subject is a way to start. Also, getting a mentor that will understand and help you grow as a researcher is key, getting you involved in the team and in a project that is suitable for the team and you.”
