I enjoy research because.... "it gives me the opportunity to dive into topics I'm passionate about and really start to uncover the science behind them."

How did you first get interested in undergraduate research at UK?

"I started volunteering with Campus Kitchen to help improve food security and reduce food waste at UK. My experiences with Campus Kitchen got me interested in discovering why food insecurity existed in the first place and how we could use that knowledge to make a difference in people's health and wellbeing. I started helping compile survey data and eventually got into the research and writing side as well."

How long have you been engaged in undergraduate research?

"1.5 years"

What has been the most exciting aspect of your research so far?

"The most exciting part of research has been gaining the confidence and knowledge to share what I'm learning with others."

What advice would you give to other UK students thinking about doing research?

"Don't be afraid to reach out to faculty! You never know what kind of opportunities are out there."
