How will this summer research fellowship support your research efforts?

“This summer research fellowship will help support my efforts in multiple ways. Firstly, it will assist in purchasing the necessary materials to conduct my project. It will also help in transport to and from my various sites and contribute to lowering my cost of living. This summer research fellowship is also helping me in furthering my skills surrounding scientific discovery by prompting more investigation into problems facing our community and giving me the toolkit to help solve them. ”

Why is sustainability research important?

“Sustainability research is incredibly important to the state of Kentucky as well as the rest of the world. Educating future generations and providing policy-changing data is just one reason of many why sustainability research should be taken seriously. It allows for various extension opportunities and exposes otherwise unknown solutions to modern-day issues. It is also greatly important in supporting the economy of farmers and consumers and providing more eco-friendly options to the community. Without sustainability research, there would be a significant lack in new technologies, production mechanisms, environmental education, and overall global advancement."

What advice would you give to other UK students thinking about doing research?

“My advice for other UK students interested in research would be to put themselves out there. Be willing to talk to professors and fellow students to become more involved and learn more about the various opportunities you can participate in. I would also suggest choosing to research a topic or issue that you are passionate about and willing to take charge with. It is essential to build relationships with your community and expose yourself to the experiences research has to offer.”
