I enjoy research because.... "it challenges me academically and reinforces topics I learn in the classroom."

How did you first get interested in undergraduate research at UK?

"I originally wanted to go into research to get as heavily involved in bench science and experimental science as possible (for an undergraduate) to see if it was something I was interested or if it was something I could see myself doing for the rest of my life."

How long have you been engaged in undergraduate research?

"I have technically been involved undergraduate research since my freshman year through the STEMcats program at UK, but I’ve been working with Dr. Hannon since the summer after my freshman year (~ 3 years)."

What has been the most exciting aspect of your research so far?

"The most exciting aspect of my research so far has been publishing a research paper as first author!"

What advice would you give to other UK students thinking about doing research?

"I highly recommend doing research as an undergrad in the field you want to go into. It not only solidifies if you will enjoy that field, but it also sets you apart from a lot of your peers."
